February 25th, 2000: sweet bird of prey
*da daa da dum dummmmmmm* "The news...is next."

Oh dear god. It's that time of day again? Roll over. Groan. Hit the snooze bar. Fall back asleep.

"...France has comitted to sending a third of the two thousand troops necessary..."

All right, all right. Silence NPR by hitting the "wake me up tomorrow" button. Stretch. Get out of bed, knowing that to stay in bed one moment longer will mean falling back asleep.

Stretch. Forget about muscle strain—remember when weight comes down hard on right heel. OW! Say some words Mom wouldn't approve of. Hobble to bathroom. Run washcloth over face, spray hair with water and use a brush to beat it into submission. Take little pills.

Cat on the floor. "Mrrt? Mrrrt? Mrrrrrrrt?" Translation: "picky up? picky up? pleeeeease, picky up?" Pick up cat. Rub cat's jaw right where he likes to be rubbed. Get drooled on by fantastically happy cat who can't stop purring long enough to swallow. Stand in bathroom snuggling Drooly Kitty. Put him down over protests.

Stretch again, carefully. Manage to avoid making the injured calf spasm again. Feel a sense of accomplishment.

Back in the bedroom, look for clothes. Jeans, check. Socks, check. underwear, check. Run around the bedroom for a little while without a shirt on. Locate shirt. Check.

Fully dressed! All right. What's next? Check list. Water. Right. Water. Wander to kitchen, turning on lights. Water? Where? Oh, down here in the door. Cold water. Drink drink drink. Feeling better. Finish the liter.

Then, it's time for coat. Then, making sure everything is here. Lunchbox? Pursethingy? Gym bag? Rub eyes. Not too hard. Feed cats. Pet whichever one comes to hand.

Turn off lights. Walk out door. Come back, having forgotten gym bag. Go out door again. Lock door.

Attempt to remember where car is. Locate car. Unlock and turn on car. Discover frost on windshield. Scrape, scrape. Defrost. Squeegee windows. Get back into car. Vroom!

Up the hill to Eastlake. Feeling a little more awake. Left onto the big road, avoid hitting other car. Vroom. This part's easy. Avoid running over bicyclist. The sky's starting to get light in the east. Across the drawbridge, up the hill, right and whee! curving around under the bridge. 15MPH curve all the way. 5-way intersection, nobody else in it, beautiful. Take a left at the second street.

Curvy road next to the water. Isn't it pretty this time of morning? People just starting to stir at the shipyards. Daybreak's coming.

Find parking spot. Get out of car, look over retaining wall at the progress of the new building. The big hole's bigger than it was yesterday. The warehouse is almost ready to be floated down the canal on a barge.

and into work, into the blessed silence and the tasks ahead of me. ahhhh.

Nothing quite like a Friday morning.

Running thoughts as I try and keep up with everything. Today seems to be a day of rest, of organization.

I went to the bookstore today and bought "Libido: the Journal of Sex and Sensibility" and Organizing From the Inside Out. With spring almost here, I am feeling urges to clean, to organize, to start projects.

I've almost decided what I want to do with doomcookie. Part of it is going to be a site with my writing in it--i want to keep a writer's notebook, as well as an index of finished pieces. The design is starting to come together in my mind.

I am *so* ready for spring. Bring it on!

(by the way, have you hit my Weblog recently? i've actually starting posting entries.
