6/8/99--206 days till millenium
dispatch one: the Strategem closes
In Seattle, an invisible conspiracy is being played out; a dance that has been going on for the past 300 years is finally reaching its climax. An ancient power struggle is being cleared away, and the truth is finally beginning to be revealed.
The ancient basis for power in the area--the division of territories by Prides--has fallen away as the Prides themselves begin to convulse and die. The new millenium is approaching, and with it a shift in Perpetual society the likes of which has been seen only a few times before.
And ingenue awaking now are awakening into a world where nobody knows which history is true, much less has any time to enlighten the poor things to what is actually going on.
Life--and death--are about to get a whole lot stranger...

Stuart,
I don't have much time now. Things have been strange up here, what with the new stadium nearing completion and the solstice approaching.
But I wanted to catch you up on things and make sure you don't freak out if i disappear.
Dracul is gone, and the Morrigan have almost completely vanished. Everyone i was keeping an eye on seems to have skipped town in the past few days. The cadre who was running that comic shop you liked so well? Gone. The shop's still there, but they've had a sudden turnover of employees. I didn't get to see Heidi before she left, either, which worries me.
Like they used to say in old movies, it's quiet. Too quiet.
The only burst of activity has been on the site of the new stadium, and at that old school on Queen Anne. I was almost sure that the stadium was a Magdalen site, considering that they have Paul Allen and most of the city government under their thumb. The site was just too convenient to have been anyone else.
Word seems to be coming down from On High. I won't shed any tears over the Strategem tanking for once and for all, but you know my history with thathell, you were there for some of it. Ah, the good old days of being more than slightly insane...
But all this quiet must mean something, and i think i'm going to go underground for a while. possibly very far underground. There seems to be a few new ingenue living near here who are awakening a little, so i'm going to try and keep an eye on them for a bit, but i don't know how much longer i'm going to be able to.
We've got about six months till it all explodes. maybe less. I hope the new world is friendlier than the old one...
I have to go. Kiss the dogs for me.
Susan
