June 02, 2002: spring stumbling
Ray says, "It's not so much like spring has sprung here. It's more like it's sort of fallen out of the closet and is holding its head and rolling around on the floor, and you have to put it to bed and take care of it for three or four weeks before you really start to see it actually be spring."

It's really hard for me to be depressed when it's sunny out. Really, really, really.

That and some good old retail therapy has helped my mood immensely. i've gotten two of the semi-major purchases I needed to make off of my plate, and now I have one more semi-major and two Really Major (replacement for Desdemona and new wiring for the house) left to go. And I got a watering can.

I've been looking for a watering can for weeks. I had only a few critera: it had to be big, it had to be made out of plastic, and it had to have a sprinkler head on it.

Evidently galvanized metal watering cans are all the rage these days. But the ones that were big enough for my purposes were too expensive for my tastes, so I waited to buy one till I found one that I really wanted, which I accomplished at the hardware store today.

And I happily sprinkled water on the plants out back. I might save the pretty rhodie, yet.

I also went clothes shopping with Chris. I was after some bras, as i'd seen some recently that looked like they might fit me. (I quit puberty halfway through. This makes it exceedingly hard to find bras. I haven't worn a bra on a regular basis for about four years.)

So I dragged Chris to the clothes store, and tried on what seemed like the entire lingerie section. Chris, for his part, was cooperative, sitting reading in the chair and offering opinions on what I showed him, till I found some stuff that I really liked. I now have bras that, er, mostly fit! It's better than what I had before, which was nothing--I can wear white shirts now, which was the point of this exercise.

I also found this corset-thing that I fell immediately in love with. I tried it on and it fit more or less perfectly. I'm not quite big enough to fill up the cups in front, but that can be remedied with some scissors and a pair of drugstore pantyhose.

But here are two pictures: from above and a detail of the hook and eye fasteners.

I also took some pictures of stuff around the house, including yet another picture of my front yard, Juniper on the doormat, Lilith in the sink, and my nasturtiums sprouting. (edible flowers, hooray!)

I woke this morning and I was bracketed by cats, one on each side. I later caught a picture of Lilith in one of the cat beds. I went around the yard to pull weeds, and found that my white iris is blooming, the neighbors have some interesting old-style irises in their front yard, and the next door neighbors haven't been home enough to water their pots, so I did it for them.

I've also taken to pulling my hair back into a French braid as spring's advanced, and I'm starting to feel almost like a girl again. Amazing. I'm going to start lifting weights again this week and see if it helps with things, and try and eat better than I have been.

My body has been doing some wacky hormonal things that has involved lots of menstrual disturbances, headaches, muscle cramps, and other assorted oddness. Alas, my endocrinologist has no free appointments till July, when I have an appointment scheduled anyway. So I'll cope until then, and exercise a lot and hope it helps.

The sunset's gilded the fluffy little clouds with red gold, and so it's time to close up the house and get ready for bed. Time to face down the new week.
