November 03, 2000: a perfectness inside you
Duck is in town.

And what do we do when Duck is in town?

We go 80'S DANCING!

So last night, several of us ventured out. There were a couple of places that had been mentioned as having 80's music--Polly Esther's and Neighbors (which was having an 80's night). So about 9 PM, we climbed into my car and headed out.

Polly Esther's was a bust. It was interestingly decorated, but half of the club wasn't open that night, there wasn't anyone there, and they were playing funk from the early 80's. While it's perfectly good music, it wasn't what we were in the mood for. So we went off to Capitol Hill to Neighbors.

Neighbors, as you may guess by its location in Cap Hill (the gay district, for those who have never been to Seattle) is a gay club. I immedately felt underdressed. Here I was in my black jeans, flats, and green shirt, and all of these beautiful gayboys were impeccably dressed. So were the women, though generally not quite as...flamboyantly.

We walked in, claimed a table, and ordered drinks. The music was 80's tunes remixed by techno artists; so it was the stuff we were used to with a relentless beat added. I felt oddly at home. It felt like Thursday nights at Maxie's back in Iowa City; loud music, surrounded by friends, everyone kind of dancing with each other. I danced a bit, sat out a couple of songs, and danced some more. I'm out of shape; it's been too long since i could dance a five-song set back in college.

And sitting back at the table, I watched the crowd. A fabulously beautiful butch in a muscle shirt and carpenter jeans left me weak in the knees. The girl in pigtails and a black dress dancing by herself made my heart go pitter-pat, just a little. A boy slinked past the table in a pair of silver lame pants that left little to nothing to the imagination. I just watched everyone go by, watched the body language, the interactions, sucking on the ice from someone else's drink.

I think I'll go back. No, i know i'll go back. I've been too long without any sort of nightlife.
